The tables below give information about sales of Fairtrade-labelled coffee and bananas in 1999 and 2004 in five European countries.
The date given in two tables depict how many coffee and bananas of Fairtrade-labelled are sold in UK, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium and Sweden in 1999 and 2004.
Overall, Fairtrade-labelled merchandised much more bananas than coffee in Switzerland both in 1999 and 2004, and the figure were the highest ones in table. Sweden spent the least on coffee in both years while Belgium expended the smallest millions of euros on bananas in 1999, and it moved to Sweden in 2004.
It is clear evident that Denmark had the highest number in sale of coffee in 1999 (1.8 million of euros), but the first rank belonged to the UK in 2004 (20 million of euros). Sweden stood for the lowest point in both 1999 and 2004, at 0.8 million of euros and 1 million of euros respectively. Besides, the figures for sales of coffee in Switzerland and Belgium witnessed dramatic growths from 1999 to 2004.
Belgium’s expenses for bananas was only 0.6 million of euros in 1999, then it surged to 4 million of euros in 2004. Similarly, there was upsurge in banana sale in Switzerland from 15 million of euros to 47 million of euros over the span of five years and UK consumed 5.5 million of euros in 2004. While the UK’s number went up significantly more than five-folds, the remaining two countries’ reduced sharply.
