The article states that the settlements of Chaco Canyon in New Mexico were in great houses that contain hundreds of rooms, mainly, these are used for residential purpose and the article also provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that none of the explanations stated by the article are convincing and refutes each of the author's reasons.
First, the reading claims that Chaco building structures were purely residential and each house contains hundreds of people. But, the professor refutes this point by saying that the outside structures are looking very residential but he has a doubt about inside of the house because hundreds people cannot live in this house. He also states that there are not so much fire places that mainly used for cooking. Besides, there are enough rooms more than hundreds people, so, it cannot be used as residential.
Second, the article posits that Chaco structures were used to store food supplies like maize. However, the professor says that there is no such evidence to store the food for long times. According to him, there are no evidences of more spilled maze on the floor or any useful containers to store the foods.
Third, the reading says that the houses were used as ceremonial centers and the evidence of broken pots implies that they ate festival meals and discarded the pots. But professor opposes this point by explaining that some building material like sand, stones, construction tools are also found beside the broken pots, so, it may be a construction building. We also learn from the professor that mainly the workers of those construction buildings used those pots for meal. Thus, the professor shows his strong evidences against the article.
