Without capital punishment (the death penalty) our lives are less secure and crimes of violence increase. Capital punishment is essential to control violence in society. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Death penalty is one of the oldest punishments in mankind history, from thousands years ago humans applied death penalty in order to enhance their peace and security, but after passing years of years and becoming civilized is it still necessary to use capital punishment to reduce the crime of violence?
There are different ideas about this issue, some people believe that capital punishment is the best way to stop criminals to committing crimes such as murder, they say when there is death penalty fewer criminals would dare to commit crimes. Therefore, the existential philosophy of capital punishment is to reduce crime by spreading fear among criminals about the consequence of their action. In other hand, some other people believe that capital punishment itself promote more violence in society, therefore for reducing violence they offer another idea. They believe to cope with this issue first we have to deal with its factors and backgrounds, it means we need to find out what are the factors that makes a person to commit such a crimes and after that eliminate those factors as much as we can, in this way we can avoid situations that a person could commit a crime. Moreover, we can replace capital punishment with life imprisonment.
However, for both ideas many investigations have been conducted, in case of capital punishment, researches indicates on the contrary, in those countries that have implemented capital punishment, crime rate has not reduced, instead for those countries that have abolished capital punishment, they faced crime rate reduction.
In conclusion, I personally believe it is different from society to society, yet I think in general capital punishment is not essential to control crime and violence in community. In fact, I believe replacing death penalty with life imprisonment is a better idea.
