The professor and the author both talk about benefits of autonomous car. According to the speaker, she refutes the main idea made in the reading passage. The following three points support her opinion.
First, the lecturer states that car accident would not be prevented because even the sensors detect cars and other disabilities in their way, there is possibility that advanced technology cars fail at some points. By the author, the accident on highways will decrease because of contribute to the accurate sensors such as brakes.
Second, the professor claims that smart cars are not helping us to live easily. In the reading passage, the computer controlled cars could take care of themselves even at high speeds thus the author says it would be less traffic and increase population of commuter by car. However, the speaker does not think so because if there are many people use a car to commute, additional cars are everywhere and traffic jam could be worse.
Lastly, about reducing expenses for repairing and replace cars. In contrast, traditional cars does not cost a lot to fix it when it is broken but the parts of autonomous cars are really expensive. The lecturer casts doubt on the high technology cars are not reasonable because they calculate informations to drive such as how far they need to stay behind the car. Therefore, she tells that it is not better way to save money.
In conclusion, the speaker shows her opinion that she disagrees with the author.
