In this set of materials, the reading passage discusses that several reasons to criticize the possibility of that the chamber structures that found in Arizona are actually related to bee nest. While, in the listening, the professor casts doubt on what is presented in the text and believes that it is completely possible that this structure was related to bee nest, and the reasons that mentioned in the passage is not convincing.
First of all, in the text, it is clearly mentioned that the scientists could not find any bee fossils that date to 200 million years ago. Thus, this structure cannot be related to bees. However, the professor claims that if we do not find bees fossils older than 200 million years ago, it does not mean that the bees were not present at this time. Because the bees fossils could produce and preserve if these insects trapped into the trees resin sticky substance and this kind of tree was very rare in 200 million years ago.
In addition, the professor disagrees with this idea that the flowering plants did not exist 200 million years ago. And in the absence of flowering plants, the bees could not exist because they mainly feed on flowering plants. She says that it is possible that the bees present before flowering plants because a lot of early bees feed on non-flowering plants and also the fren and pontriis.
Finally, in the text, it is stated that there is a lack of evidence that can support that this structure is related to bees nest. because this structure is without the cap but the bees nest have it. The professor subscribes that the modern bees produced their nest using some waterproof materials and these materials are present in this structures. Therefore, it is possible that this chamber was related to bees nest.
