The diagrams below show the life cycle of the silkworm and the stages in the production of silk cloth.
The first diagram depicts the life cycle of the silkworm while the second one describes several steps to produce the silk cloth.
In general, the process undergoes a series of steps with the aid of mulberry leaves.
To specify, the life of a silkworm begins with the born of some eggs produced by the adults' moths on the mulberry leaves. After a period of ten days, the eggs develop into silkworm larvae. Then, eating mulberry leaves within 4-6 weeks, these silkworms turn into those with thread covering their bodies. In the period of 3-8 days later, these larvae become cocoons before turning back to the form of moths in 16 days later.
The procedure of the silk clothes production is demonstrated in the second diagram with five stages. Firstly, some cocoons are selected and boiled at high temperature, followed by the step of unwinding into threads. These threads whose length vary from 300 meters to 500 meters are, next, either twisted and dried directly or woven and finally dried. Strikingly, only by dint of the usage of drying chemicals is cloth colored to be a demand of users.
