The little ice age was a period that unusually cold tempreture took place in many parts of Earth. There was harsh winter and glaciers grew larger in many areas. The reading passage reviews three of most important causes for this period. However, the lecturer thinks that the idea that presented in the reading passage is outdated.
The reading passage mentions that by melting of glaciers, a large amount of water was sent into Gulf Stream. This huge amount of water causes large ocean current that strongly affects Earth's climate. But the lecturer thinks that little ice age happened in southern hemisphere like New Zeland and South Africa. The ocean current can affect cooling in Europe and North America.
The reading passage mentions that volcanic dust which is the result of eruption can be another reason. Because, these clouds can spread over great areas and block sunlight from reaching Earth's surface. But the lecturer thinks that volcanic eruption has visual effects that must be noticed by people. But there are no reports that prove the possibility of strong volcanic eruption.
Finally, the reading passage thinks that decline in human population increased forest and reduced the amount of carbon dioxide which causes earth to become warmer. But the lecturer thinks that there was not enough time for this reason and also population started to grow in little ice age era.Hence, people needed to grow crops and cut the forest to prepare foods.
