The line graph illustrates four different methods of transport used for importing goods in the UK from 1974 to 2002.
According to the graph, the amount of goods transported in Britain by roadways was about 70 million tonnes which was nearly 30 million tonnes more than the goods transported using rail and waterways. Then, it increased gradually with some fluctuations reaching just under 100 million ronnes. In case of goods transported by railway, it remained constant at 40 million tonnes from 1974 to 2002 and soared slightly with some oscillations to just over 40 million tonnes.
Similarly, in 1974, waterways transported around 40 million tonnes goods whereas approximately 5 million tonnes goods was imported in Britain utilizing pipeline. The goods transported in Britain by waterways rose slowly from 1974 to 1978 and upsurged rapidly until 1982 at slightly under 60 million tonnes. This then, went up mildly ending at slightly over 60 million tonnes in 2002. Likewise, goods imported by pipeline uplifted tediously reaching nearly 20 million tonnes at the end of the period.
Overall, the road was the most used mode of transport in Britain while the least mode of transport was pipeline from 1974 to 2002. The goods transported by water and railways was same in the year of 1975.
