The graph illustrates that how much recycling figures for four materials changed between 1982 to 2010 in a typical country. As is evident from the graph, the trend for all selected subjects was obviously upward, while the corresponding change for aluminum cans was outstandingly higher than others.
We can see that paper and cardboard had the greatest values used for recycling throughout the whole period. Although having initially increased to 80% in 1994, which was the peak level of the whole period, it experienced a steady drop to finish at 70% in 2010. Turning to glass containers, a reverse pattern was demonstrated. It dropped from the initial figure at 50% to 40% in 1990, before rising steadily to be recycled of 60% of available glass containers in 2010.
Regarding aluminum cans and plastics, a similar upward pattern is presented. Although the proportion of aluminum cans involved in recycling process rose significantly from around 2% in 1984 to just 45% at the end, plastics just witnessed a slower increase from 2% in 1988 to the lowest figure of 9% in 2010.
