The line graph gives compares three types of visitors to New Zealand between 1997 and 2017 in terms of the amount of money that people spent on a daily basis.
It is clear that the average spending on three types of visitors from 2000 to 2003. The money spent by people who visit for business purpose is the highest most of the time but it also fluctuates the most among all groups. As the spending for those visiting friends or relatives is consistently the lowest.
In 1997, business visitors spent about $260 daily while holidaymakers spent $190 and people visiting friends or families spent only $120, which is also the lowest figure ever. The average spending for these three groups all dramatically increased over the next 3 year, arriving at the peak in 2002 and 2003. At the time, the average spending for business visitors, holiday seekers and people visiting families is $330, $260 and $220, respectively.
After the peak, the amount of money spent on all groups plummet and the money spent on business visitors dropped the most, with a figure of $180 a day only. Despite the sharp decrease, it was still not the lowest number for business visitors, which was the $150 appeared in 2015. As for the people taking a vacation and people visiting friends, the change followed a similar trend, but the figure for holidaymakers eventually picked up and that for those visiting friends stayed relatively low. Finally, in 2007, the number was $250 for people having holidays, the most average amount of money spent during the year, $210 for business visitors and $140 for those visiting friends or relatives.
