In this set of materials, the reading passage discusses that landing and colonization of human on asteroids is a perfect idea and provide several reasons to support this idea. While in the listening the professor casts doubt on what is presented in the text and believes that colonization of asteroids is not a practical idea and is unconvinced at all.
First of all, in the text, it is clearly mentioned that the low gravity of asteroids makes landing a spaceship very easier, safer and financially efficient. However, the professor claims that lower gravity cased healthy risk for human because it can lead to loss of muscle and decrease of bones density. For example, people who spend some month on the space station on low gravity suffered from muscular and bone damage and this problem would be worse in the long term.
In addition, the professor disagrees with this idea that mining on asteroids makes travel to them profitable. He says that the cost required for travel to asteroids cannot be covered by profits created by selling rare and valuable metals and other materials, because when these metals become available in high quantity their price would be decreased significantly.
Finally, yet importantly, in the text, it is stated that settling on asteroids is a good idea because they are easy to reach. The professor subscribes that the asteroids have an unusual orbit, for example, sometimes they become close to Earth that makes way open to get to it and then become so far from earth and coming back from them would be a serious challenge.
