TPO-50
The reading and the lecture both about Mars travel in the coming decades. The reading states that maybe sending humans to Moon was easy; however, Mars would be difficult mission. The lecture builds upon these some ideas to give more comprehensive picture with three examples.
First of all, according to the reading it is hard to maintain enough supplies of food, water, and a oxygen due to the fact that round trip to Mars requires at least two years. However, the lecturer disputes this point. She says that this problem is already decided by scientist. To put it more simply, astronauts will cultivate their food, recycle waste water and thanks to carbon dioxide they can breath fresh air regardless of time.
Secondly, the reading states that spending a lot of time in the zero gravity will be resulted in decreased muscle mass and lower bone density. Nevertheless, the lecture refutes this argument. She argues that many astronauts who already travelled zero gravity in long time invented a few techniques such as regular exercise will protect decreasing muscle mass and using calcium is one way to prevent lower bone density.
Finally, the reading claims that space radiation is dangerous to astronauts who has mission to Mars and shield can't protect shift properly. On the other hand, the lecturer believe that space radiation is not perilous all the time and nowadays travellers can shielded fully.
In conclusion, the reading and lecture have conflicting opinions about mission to Mars , the three main point made in the reading are effectively challenged by the lecturer.
