The line graph compares the percentage of Japanese population in three different groups during the period between 1960 to 2040.
In general, people aged 15-64 accounted for the highest proportion of the total population. While the percentage of elder people in this country increase over the period, the opposite was true for the other two groups.
According to the graph, the percentage of people aged 15-64 stood at 65%, over 6 times as much as that of the elder group in 1960. In the following 30 years, the figures for the elder group increased gradually to 10% while the number of working ages fluctuated slightly around 70%. After that, this number of the elder people increase dramatically to 35% in 2040, compared to the percentage of working-aged decrease rapidly to approximately 50% until 2030 before that rising steadily to 55% at the end of the period.
By contrast, 30% of the people aged 0-14 rose moderately in 1960, this number rose moderately by 5% in ten years later. From 1970 to 1990, the percentage of Japanese population fluctuated slightly after that falling suddenly to 10% in 2040 during the period.
