Summarize the lecture and the reading
Both the reading and the lecture discuss the increase of salt in lake in The Salton Sea in California. The reading suggests some solutions to solve this problem but the lecturer states that these methods will not be successfully carried out.
To begin with, the author says that directly eliminating salt from the lake's water in special desalination facilities. Nevertheless, the professor claims that this solution will lead to another serious issue. Left materials included types of chemicals which were toxic. When these materials blended into the air people would breath this toxic atmosphere. Therefore, their health would be harmful.
Secondly, the writer tells that mixing water in the lake with water in ocean to dilute the salt level. However, the lecturer opposes this notion by mentioning that the cost of constructing the pipelines was exorbitant. It was about hundred kilometers to convey the ocean water and loads of money must be paid for this.
Finally, the reading conceives that building walls to separate the lake into several sections. The professor argues that this method only functions well for a short-term. Because those walls were located near somewhere had geological activities such as earthquake, they would be collapsed when earthquakes were active again.
