A company is going to give some money either to support the arts or to protect the environment. Which do you think the company should choose? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Successful companies who decide to support issues that do not have a direct impact on them are perceived better by society. Every type of donation is very helpful in improving the community; however, I believe that the best contribution would be by donating to environment purposes. This is for two reasons which I will explore in the following essay.
To begin with, environmental conditions are in the highest point of degradation in the history. All these scientific and technological innovations have exponentially increased the productivity of work; however, at the same time, they have destroyed nature in an unprecedented fashion. As a result, any kind of help from big corporations towards this huge problem would be extremely valuable for people in the long-run. My own experience is a compelling example of how corporation can improve the place we live. I live in small city called Prishtina. About ten years ago, there used to be a river that flowed in the middle of the city; it was very beautiful for a long time nonetheless it did not last long. People started to throw all kinds of garbage in it; as a result, the smell made it impossible to live or walk near it. Nonetheless, a big corporation decided to do a huge favor to our community and covered it with soil. As a result, this firm made a huge improvement in our life.
Secondly, helping the environment is a very common marketing strategy. Nature destruction is by far the most debated and covered issue in the media. Therefore, when a firm funds something related to improving natural conditions, every title of every medium has the firm’s name on it. As a result, by supporting a cause that affects a lot of people, their advertisement is very successful for a lower cost. For example, a company from my country called Golden Eagle two years ago declared that for every can of energy drink they would sell, ten percent would go to a foundation established for the purpose of cleaning national parks. As a consequence, every media outlet was talking about their action; in addition, their profits, even after deducing ten percent that was meant to go to their fund, grew astronomically. This is a good example on how companies can help the community and themselves by supporting environmental issues.
In conclusion, I acknowledge the fact that some people might think supporting artists is a better way for firms to spend their money. Nonetheless, I believe that helping environment is a better choice. This is because our nature is in very bad conditions and needs help; also, because it is a win-win situation for companies.
