The bar graphs illustrate the share of households in owned and rented in two different countries (England and Wales) in 1918 and 2011.
Overall, it is readily apparent that the proportion of household in rented accommodation was greater than the household in owned accommodation during that time, whereas the maximum percentage of household in owned accommodation was in 2001, and the percentage of household in rented accommodation remained the lowest. However, the largest percentage of household in rented accommodation was in 1918 while the percentage of household in owned accommodation remained minimum. Additionally, both owned and rented household in accommodation was in the same proportion in 1971.
In 1981, the household in owned accommodation was approximately 23%. It developed to almost 32% in 1939 and remained constant in 1953. Then, it improved significantly from about 23% to around 69% in 2011. However, it slightly decreased at 64% in 2011.
As far as household in rented accommodation concerned, 1918 was the bomb year with nearly 78% which started to drop afterward. Thought it remained constant at roughly 69% in 1939 and 1953, it continued to go down until it reached 31% in 2011. In the year 2011, it slightly increased to 37%.
