Pterosaurs were an ancient reptiles with wings lived at the same time of dinosaurs. They were very large and had a windspan over 12 meters. They paleontologists casted doubts on this spisices' flying ablity in that flying needs lots of energy that cold-blooded reptiles could not supply, also the weight of these big reptiles made them impossible to fly. Besides, compared with birds , their back legs were so weak that they probably not jump to fly. However, in this speech, the lecturer disproves the theories metioned as follows.
Firstly, the pterosaurs may have suffcient energy to fly because of the fur. According to the lecturer, the fur of the acncient reptiles were found, thus it was possbile that the pterosaus may maintain warm due to the fur when they were flying. The warm kept in the body may suggest that the pterosaurs were warm-blooded, like the birds today.
Secondly, the ancient reptiles may be not so heavy as people assumed. There were lots of anatomical features discovered, one of which was the bones of the pterosaurs were hollow. So the weight of them could be much lower than the solid ones as researchers thought.
Thirdly, being diffrent from the birds with two legs to jump, the pterosaurs could use the four lims to run or jump like the bats today. Morevoer, they could push over the ground to jump high enough to fly or run fast enough. So they may fly in the sky.
In conclusion, the lecturer contends that even the pterosaurs were an ancient large group of reptiles, they still may fly in the sky due to the special features of their bodies.
