The reading explains altruism and introduces two examples. However, the professor states that these examples given in the passage are reexamined by the resent studies and cast doubt on them.
To begin with, the reading states that the meerkat which plays a role to look around and tell other meerkats that a predator is approaching can't get food by that behavior and it is one type of altruism. On the other hand, the professor refutes this point by claiming that recent studies show that the meerkat eats enough food before standing guard.
Additionally, the article claims that the meerkat looking out for predators has a risk to be caught by predetors as it runs alone. Nonetheless, the professor says that it is more likely to escape from predators than other meerkats because it can move immediately. He also explains that not running away in a group makes predetors pay little attention.
Lastly, the passage says that it is another type of altruism that humans give their body organs to others. However, the professor opposes this point by stating that they can't get raw material but can get immortional expressions. According to the professor, appreciation can be a best form of delight for some people.
Therefore, the professor cast doubt on the points given in the passage.
