The charts provide information about travelers in the US in 2009, namely why they travelled and what troubled them.
Overall, it is clear that commuting to and from work served as the principal reason for travelling while the most problematic aspect of travelling was its cost.
A close examination of the first chart shows that work was the most popular reason for travel, accounting for nearly a half. Around one fifth went out for personal reasons whereas shopping and social as well as recreation activities constituted only 16% and one tenth, respectively. Merely 6% of the travelers were motivated by the purpose of visiting friends and relatives.
Turning to the problems, the price of travel represented up to 36%, almost doubled the second highest figure for safety concerns. Next come those who were troubled by aggressive drivers (17%) and highway congestion (14%). The two least significant problems were access to public transport and space for pedestrian, representing less than 10% each.
