While recruiting a new employee, the employer should pay more attention to their personal qualities, rather than qualifications and experience. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Give your opinion and include relevant examples.
There are two main characteristics which are given preferences over each other while recruiting employees: academic qualifications and experience as well as personal skills; it is thought by people that interpersonal skills should be preferred on qualification and experience. I partially agree with this concept as I believe that choosing one over other should be based on the type of job.
Education and experience cannot be substituted by personal traits. Many jobs out there require academic knowledge to perform job responsibilities, for instance, a hospital cannot hire a practitioner unless he is a qualified doctor. Likewise, a layman cannot understand how to design a house building. He might end up having a block of concrete without having its durability and aesthetic beauty. Therefore, only a qualified architect can do the job better. Moreover, experienced employee would be a great asset which can benefit a company in many substantial ways as compared to inexperienced and fresher worker. Therefore, both these requirements are hard to ignore for certain types of jobs.
However, only focusing on qualification and experience while hiring an employee cannot be suitable as well as productive for every kind of job. Many jobs responsibilities can only be performed as long as the employee have interpersonal skills. These jobs does not require any specific knowledge and education but qualities such as communication, politeness, coordination, discipline and pressure handling. A front desk staff in a hotel, for instance, does not need to acquire a degree in communication since he is not going to express knowledge and theories to anyone, but one thing he requires is effective communication with visitors of that hotel. In this case, a secondary school graduate can execute the job responsibilities as long as he is not shy.
To conclude, education and experience are very much popular parameters to let someone be a part of a company. Despite the popularity, many work places demand personal traits to fulfill requirement of a job. I believe that seeking either of both these qualities without considering type of the job will not be effective for any organisation.
