Both essay and lecture discuss Agnostic behaviors. The author suggests three theories of these behaviors. Lecturer, however, rebuts all of these explanations. He believes none of these ideas can accurately explain Agnosic behaviors.
First of all, the writer of reading claims that these animals might be free-swimming predators which usually fed on smaller animals. The professor challenges this idea by mentioning that most of the predators hold a powerful sense of vision. Since these species were suffering from a weakness in vision, they probably hadn't been predators. Moreover, the man states that if Agnostics were predator, they should at least hold another powerful sensory organ. But, this isn't observed in their fossils.
Second, the author believes that these animals lived on the sea floors and, they fed on organisms or bacteria on the floor of the see. The lecturer rejects this claim either. He mentions that animals which live on the sea floors are often slow species, hence their habitat is limited; however, Agnostics lived in multiple areas. This shows that these animals were quick and, couldn't stay on the floor of the sea.
Third, the essay says that they might be some kind of parasites. The professor tors this claim. He points out that parasites' population often is limited because a large group of them can kill off the animal which they feed on. On the other hand, evidence has shown that there have been large groups of these animals so, they probably weren't parasites.
