The companies in the reading hold a standpoint that the new regulation for coal ash is meaningless. On the contrary, the professor claims an opposing idea that the regulation of coal ash has to be created. And in the lecture, she uses three specific points to support her idea.
First, in the reading, companies claim that there is already a regulation, like handling coal ash must in a new fill pound. the professor argues in the lecture that the old regulation is insufficient. This is because the liner does not ask companies to dispose old fill pound which already could make huge damage for environment,
Moreover, the statement claimed in the reading passage is that the strict laws for coal ash may hamper recycle coal ash to other products. Contrary to it is the professor’s opinion that the recycle products like mercury do not be affected by strict laws. After having rules for handling and restoring it, consumers still use the mercury products and very safety.
Finally, unlike the saying that the strict rules will increase the cost for companies and consumers in the passage, the lecturer advocate that those rules indeed increase the cost for companies. However, after analyse the cost, consumers only need to pay 1 percent and enjoy cleaner environment.
