In this set of materials, the reading passage states that glass is used for decorating buildings, but it has a bad effect and injured to birds because they cannot distinguish it is a glass and they try to fly through glass windows. On the other hand, the listening section brings into the reading question points by providing different reasons (and examples).
First, the reading indicates that people can replace one-way glass to regular glass, so people can see out but birds cannot see inside, and they do not fly through the windows. In contrast, the lecturer opposes this view by mentioning that one-way glasses reflects picture as the same as mirrors. So, it may reflect the sky or trees. In this situation, birds cannot distinguish this picture is only reflective of the sky and tree; indeed, they try to fly through windows.
Furthermore, the reading indicates that people can use colorful lines or designs on the regular glasses, so birds do not see inside the building, and they do not fly through windows; conversely, what the professor believes is different. He points out that when people use colorful lines on regular glasses, they can see out. But, birds see some holes on the windows, and they try to inter to the hole. Also, if people paint patterns on the glasses until birds cannot see holes, the room becomes dark. So, it is not practical solutions.
Finally, according to the reading, birds use the magnetic field for navigation, so people can create an artificial magnetic field to guide birds away from buildings. However, the professor believes that birds use the magnetic field of Earth when they want to migrate long distance. For example, when they want to travel from a cold country to a warm country, they use the magnetic field for finding their ways. But, when they travel a short distance like travel in a city, they do not use a magnetic field. They use their eyes or sunlight to finding their ways. So, it is not practical solutions.
