Carved stone balls
The reading and the lecturer are both about a carved stone ball from the late Neolithic period. The author of the reading feels that they were carved from so many kinds of stone which most of them were 70 diameters for many usages. The lecturer challenged the claims made by the author. He is of the opinion that these reasons are not convincing.
To begin with, the reading states that carved stone balls were carved as a weapon for hunting or struggling. The article mentions that they have a hole in them which allows the person who takes it to swing it around on throwing it. This specific claim is challenged by the lecturer. He claims that they were just a sign of wear. Additionally, he says that many of them were broken off or damaged and those holes were not for the hunter to use it.
Secondly, the author of the reading argues that those carved stone balls were the port of primitive systems of weights and measures. The reading mentions that they shaped in 70 mm in diameter which suggests that the balls were not interchangeable and represented some standard unit of measure. The lecturer, however, rebuts on this by mentioning that carved stone balls were constructed from different types of stone like a green stone. He elaborates on this by bringing up the point that those stones have a different density which makes the carved stone balls exclusive for themselves.
Finally, the author of the reading posits that carved stone balls served for social purposes as opposed to a practical or utilitarian one. Moreover, it is stated in the article that many stone balls elaborate designs. The lecturer, in contrast, has a different position than carved stone balls intricated and was too simple. He notes that those carved stone balls were buried with their position.
