The diagrams show how house designs differ according to climate.
The most noticeable difference between houses designed for cool and warm climates is in the shape of the roof. The design also differ with regard to the windows and the use of insulation.
We can see that the cool climate house has a high-angle roof, which allows the sunlight to directly enter through the window. By contrast, the roof of the warm climate house has a peak in the middle and roof overhangs to shade windows. Insulation and thermal building material are used in cool climate house to reduce heat loss and store the heat, whereas insulation and reflective roof material are installed in warm climate house in order to keep the heat out.
In addition, the cool climate house only has one window facing the direction of sun, while the warm climate house has two on both side. The two windows in the warm climate house are closed at day to prevent the heat in, but at night, these can be opened to make the house ventilated and finally, remove the stored heat.
