Buying a franchise company
The author of the reading and the lecturer are both about starting a franchise kind of business. The author believes that a franchise is a positive choice for people that are starting their own business. The lectures disagree with all three of the author's ideas on franchises. I will explain in the following essay how he contradicts each one of the ideas.
First, while the author of the reading believes that buying a franchise will eliminate money problems like choosing a bad supplier. In many cases, a bad supplier can be very costly. as a result, this will be catastrophic for a new owner. The lecturer disputes this idea. He argues that the parent company of the franchise makes the small ower pay high prices for products that can be purchased a lot cheaper by other manufacturers. Consequently, the brand name overcharged the owner of the franchise.
Second, the reading states that the franchise owner will save on advertising because the brand name has already been established in the market. The lecturer debates this idea. She claims that the brand name makes pay the franchise 6% of the cost for advertising. Moreover, the franchise does not benefit from this advertising. The only one that benefits is the parent brand, not the same franchise.
Lastly, according to the author, it is more secure to start a business with a franchised firm than to do it alone. The professor disputes this idea. He believes that there are other choices. A new owner can buy an already existing business. Studies have proven that this type of action can have a much a twice success as buying a franchise
