More and more newspapers and news channels are using photographs to support their news articles and stories. Some people think photographs are not a reliable source of news while others consider photographs to be irrefutable. Discuss both sides and give your opinion
Nowadays, one of the most prominent issues is related to authentic information. Some people advocate that news should be published with photos which support facts, while others suppose that people should not trust photos. From my point of view, photographs allow not only to spice up the article but also display the reality of events.
One of the main reasons to support this is that photos show how a certain event looked actually. That would mean that newsreaders might see the picture of events a whole and better understand information. For instance, if the article reports about workers strike in Greece, newsreaders will know not only different facts from the text but also through photographs they will see the crowd of striking people, their emotions, government, and police actions. Moreover, photos complement the text of the article and evoke emotions among readers, who image the event and feel the anger of the striking workers.
One might argue that using photos with news articles does not guarantee the full veracity of information. Sometimes photos serve as the propaganda tool and impose readers certain views on the country. Regarding the example of this fact, some newspapers describe horrible consequences of the economic crisis in one country and publish relevant photos, after which people from another part of the world believe that people in this country starve, workers strike at streets and riots across the country. However, actually, an economic crisis in this country might have negative effects, but not so terrible, as it shows photos.
Based on the above-mentioned facts, it can be concluded that photographs give people additional information about happened events and evoke feelings of readers, but in some cases, photos serve as the propaganda tool.
