Intelligent species in outer space
Intelligence
The reading selection and the professor discussed the existence of intelligent species on space. The author claims the only place where intelligent life could develop is the earth, while the lecturer disagrees with this point of view. Both reading and listening show these three main points: ideal life conditions, intelligence and interaction.
According to the passage, astronomers show all stars are different and most planets don’t have the right conditions to develop life forms. However, the lecturer argues that there is no need for ideal conditions, because life can develop in harsh environments.
The reading mentions that we live in a lonely universe and the only place we can find intelligence is in our planet. Nevertheless, the lecture shows that intelligence is a trait that can be developed in order to survive.
As the text states, the main reason we haven’t made contact with other life forms is because the universe in unpopulated. On the other hand, the listening believes other species don’t have the interest in making contact with us.
Generally speaking, although the reading and the lecture are both about intelligence in outer space, the three main points in the passage are challenged by the lecturer by supporting his point of view with various facts. Now you have been presented with all the points you can make your own conclusion.
