TPO 27: integrated writing task
Both the reading and lecture are about the origin little ice age. the author of the reading feels that there are several causes that might be proposed to little ice age. on the other hand, the professor challenges those causes that are asserted by the passage.
Firstly, the reading states that the cooling may have been caused by the disrupting in Gulf Stream, a large ocean current that strongly affects Earth's climate. these specific reason challenged by the lecturer. he claims that disruptions by the Gulf Stream cannot explain the little ice age because Gulf Stream affected only the Europe and America but not the Southern regions like south of Africa and New Zealand.
Secondly, the reading suggests that volcanic eruptions could cause the Little Ice Age, which send dark could of dust and sulfur gas into the atmosphere while erupting. the lecture, however, rebuts this by mentioning that volcanic eruptions were not strong enough to cause the Little Ice Age. he mentioned that there is no any report of snow being gray or red that could indicate the clouds of volcanic eruptions.
Finally, the reading poses that decreases in human populations may have resulted in indirectly to the cooling of the climate. forest trees growth increased on fields that were no longer used for agriculture. in the contrast, the lecture's position is that human population increased by growing crops. He added that there was not enough time the forest trees could increase in the region.
in the conclusion, the reading states that the Little Ice Age caused by the reasons mentioned above. on the other hand, the lecture argues that these reasons mentioned by the passage are not acceptable.
