The charts below show the performance of a bus company in terms of punctuality, both actual and target (what actually happened compared to what the company was trying to achieve) and the number of complaints from passengers.
The bar charts represent the punctuality of a company’s bus service by comparing their targeted and confirmed results and the data for complaining cases from 1999 to 2003.
Overall, there were significant fluctuations in the proportion of punctual arrivals while the trend for estimated targets of this was downward. Additionally, the passengers had become more discontent with the service during the period.
In 1999, the figure for expected on-time journeys stood at 86%, which was just 1% higher than that of the actual results. In the next year, while the expected figure was unchanged, the actual one suddenly fell to 82%, making it by far the lowest number during the given timeframe. For the next two years, the real number of buses arriving on time increased but remained lower than the plan, which was also reduced. However, in 2003 the actual proportion of punctual arrivals overtook the target, at nearly 85.
In terms of customers’ complaints, the number of dissatisfied responses was approximately 70 per thousand passenger journeys in 1999. Then, this figure increased gradually to 120 cases in 2003.
