The line graph illustrates How many of goods carried by different types of transport in the UK from 1974 to 2002.
It is clear that, despite slightly fluctuations, the percentages of goods increased markedly over the given period.
According to the line graph,in 1974 only 70 % of goods were transported by road. The figure for rail and water, the proportions of goods stood at about two-fifths,while pipeline was lower, at 5%.
Between 1974 and 1994, despite a little fluctuations, the quantities of goods carried by road rised marginally at 79%. Over the next eight years witnessed a significant recover in the percentages of goods with the figure first climbing to 98% and subsequently remaining almost unchanged. Turning to water,after staying fairly constant during the next four years,the, proportions of good transported by water improved substantially at 57%. Despite a bit erratic,the quantities of goods levelled off almost steady from 1982 to 1998 before increasing considerably to 64%. As regards rail,despite some erratics, the quantities of goods hovered around 40%. Finally,after rising moderately over the next eight years, the proportions of goods carried by pipeline stayed fairly steady between 1982 and 1990 before reaching to 23% in 2002.
