Your local newspaper publish an advertisement asking people to help with environment projects in your area
Write a letter to the project manager to offer your help
-Describe a local environmental issue that affects you
-Explain what would like to do to help
-suggest how problem could be avoided in the future
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing in relation to an advertisement your paper recently published asking for local volunteers to provide environmental assistance.
I would like to raise your awareness of an environmental issue that has been plaguing my local area. I live near the Gold Coast beach which in the last year has become a very popular spot with tourists and visitors. Though the beach used to be pristine and isolated, due to its growing popularity, it has become quite polluted with plastic. Also, people have begun camping on the beach and this has resulted in an increase in rubbish, particularly food and drink containers, being left behind.
To help clean up the area after visitors, I would be more than happy to arrange a group of local volunteers for a beach-cleaning event. We could pick up rubbish and also install rubbish bins at regular intervals along the sand.
While this may provide a short-term solution, to help protect the integrity of our beach and avoid further damage in the long term, I suggest that camping should be banned on the foreshore. More information signs in various languages would also help to tackle the problem.
Thank you for your time, and I look forward to the council’s action on this matter.
Yours faithfully
Tom Dick
