CORRECTED VERSION
The line graph depicts the percentage of people aged 65 years and above in the USA, Sweden and Japan between 1940 and 2040.
Overall, there was an increase in the population over the period being reviewed in all the countries, though with some fluctuations.
In the year 1940, the population of this age-group in the USA and Sweden stood at nearly 10 per cent and just above 5 per cent respectively. Over, the next four decades, that of the USA rose steadily by approximately 5 per cent while that of Sweden almost doubled. However, while the former witnessed a fairly stable trend from 1980 to 2020 and is predicted to peak by 2040 at about 25%, the latter staggered upwards and is expected to stand at one-fourths by the end of the period under review.
Furthermore, Japan’s population of those 65 years and above kicked off at 5%. It decreased slightly below this value and plateaued on this latter value for the next six decades. It then began to rise in the year 2000, and will gradually reach 10% after 2020 and is forecasted to finish the period above 25%.
