Not all people follow the law on public roads.
What's the reason?
What are the best ideas for that?
Traffic and pedestrain regulations that are imposed by the governments are solely for the safety of the massess; however, of late, there has been an alarming increase in the flouting of laws by citizens. Some of the vital reasons behind this trend are improper policing by the authorities and people lacking safety awareness. Effective measures such as penalizing offenders and government apprising people about the importance of being safe while riding or walking could curb this pressing problem.
To begin with, people, in recent times, have become reluctant to abide by the safety laws that are imposed by the government owing to the absence of police and traffic authorities on most occasions. Moreover, the absense of CCTV cameras in most cities of countries such as India futher aids this trend of people flouting regulations even during broad daylight. Furthermore, a prodigious amount of the population, especially in countries such as India, are not aware of the safety rules that are defined by the nation. Obtaining license, for instance, in India, hardly requires an individual to fill in an application form and sequentially bribe the respective officer to obtain a driver's license.
Some of the remedial measures include firstly by identifying individuals who disobey the rules while riding a vehile or those who spit on the road with the aid of CCTV cameras and eventually imposing a huge penalty on the respective offender. This way, even habitual offenders would be devoid of breaking laws. Secondly, applicants who apply for a license should be compulsorily allowed to write exams in relation to obeying traffic rules. In Scotland, for instance, schools and colleges, in their curriculum, include some of the best practices such as refraining from throwing garbage or spit on road and effectively obeying the pedestrian rules. This is one reason why Scotland hardly witnessed even a minor accident or during the last decade and even before as well.
All in all, although people violate safety rules on roads by taking advantage of the absence of authorities and improper knowledge of the traffic and pedestrian laws, remedial measures such as observing violators by using CCTV security cameras and penalizing them could lessen traffic and pedestrain violation. Also, making people and the next generation conscious about the traffic rules in place and its importance can make people completely responsible and thereby making people obey laws effectively.
