The table describes the changes of people who went for international travel in 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2005. (million).
The graph highlights the number of global travellers in four years in five different regions, namely Africa, America, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and the Middle West.
Overall, there was a total increase in the number of people going on international trips, with Europeans being virtually the largest proportion among visitors. It is also noticeable that American tourists are prone to less overseas travelling over the period shown.
Regarding travellers from Europe, the number started at 280,2 millions in 1990, followed by a moderate rise of approximately 110 millions in the next 10 years before ending the period at 400,2 millions, which was the greatest figure in 2005. Inversely, the number of American visitors witnessed a dramatic fall from 680,5 millions, the highest compared to others in the year of 1990, to just 113,2 millions in 2005.
As for Asia and the Pacific, 60,2 millions was the proportion of people who went abroad in 1990, with a subsequent growth to 135,8 millions at the end of the given period. Similar changes, but to a lesser extent, can be seen in Africa and the Middle West, whose numbers of global commuters grew from 18,2 millions to 28,7 millions and 9,8 millions to 15,8 millions respectively. The proportion of all travellers experienced a significant rise to 615,2 millions in 1995, after which it continued to increase gradually to a total of 693,7 millions in 2005.
