Summarize the points made in the lecture
The passage challenges the accuracy of the Chevalier's memoirs. These issues arising from the passage were dispelled by the lecture prompt. Here are the salient points raised to support the correctness of the Chevalier's memoirs from the lecture.
Firstly, the lecturer suggests that it is not often easy to convert property to cash. The interval between selling a property and the actual sale can make a rich person look poor. Since the Chevalier lived a profligate lifestyle while in Switzerland, anytime he needed more money, he had to sell off his property to bolster his finances. And so, this made him look broke.
Secondly, the Chevalier's memoirs as suggested by lecture is accurate. Witnesses from friends ascertained the correctness of his correspondence with voltaire. Most people agreed that he wrote down the conversation he had everyday with voltaire. Moreso, while developing the memoirs in later years, he duly consulted the source for accuracy. This point no doubt dispels the notion that because the Chevalier wrote his memoir later, it could not have been accurately done.
Thirdly, some old documents suggested that shortly after the Chevalier left the prison, the roof of his cell was repaired. The only reason to explain this repair work was that the Chevalier escaped the prison using some sophisticated chicanery. Also, since other prisoners were even more politically influential than he was and they could not have bribed their way through, it was highly impossible for him to have used bribery as way of escape.
These three points were presented in the lecture to counter the claims from the reading passage.
- When people succeed it is because of hard work Luck has nothing to do with success Do you agree or disagree 70
- The article states that the problems in the painting suggest that it could not be a work by Rembrant and provides three reasons of support However the professor in the lecture explains that the painting belongs to Rembrant and provides three reasons of su 60
- The article states that the decline of the sea otter is caused by environmental pollution and not by predators and the reading provides three reasons of support However the professor explains the decline is caused by predation and provides three reasons o 71
- People who make decisions based on emotions and justify them with logic are often poor decision makers 54
