The diagram illustrates how electricity is generated by a hydroelectric dam. It is noticeable that there are 4 main steps involved in the process, beginning with the intake of water from the reservoir and ending with electricity being delivered for consumption through power lines.
The first step of the process reveals that a reservoir is built for the provision of water running into the powerhouse to generate electricity. This amount of water, once the door is opened, flows in high pressure through a tunnel referred to as penstock to reach the turbine. Due to the significant pressure that the released water exerts, the turbine is put in motion, enabling the generator above it to run and produce electricity.
In the fourth step, the water, after swiveling the turbine, flows into the river behind the dam while the electricity generated is transported through long-distance power lines to reach households, hospitals, and factories. It is noticeable that the penstock has to be tilted towards the turbine to facilitate the fast flow of the intake, and the design of the part that the water exists is special to slow down the flow into the river to ensure safety and prevent erosion.
