The diagram below shows the average hours of unpaid work per week done by people in different categories. (Unpaid work refers to such activities as childcare in the home, housework and gardening.)
The presented bar chart reveals married men and married women's weekly average quantity of time spent on activities such as childcare, housework and gardening, and so on according to the number of children they have.
Overall, married women having three children or more use the largest amount of time to do jobs without wages, while the number of hours spent on these activities by married men in this section is the lowest figure in the chart. Additionally, in different categories, the wives always spend more time on unpaid work than the husbands.
With an average of 60 hours per week, the quantity of time that married women with three children or more take to do unpaid jobs is the highest figure. By contrast, in a family consisting of three children or more, the husbands do not spend less time doing unpaid work than the wives as this figure accounts for only 18 hours per week.
Regarding the other categories, 51 hours is taken by women with 1-2 children to have unpaid work done. Meanwhile, married women without children spend less time on these activities, with 30 hours per week. The number of hours spent on unpaid activities by men without children and with 1-2 children is the same, with approximately 19 hours.
