Overall, a considerably upward trend applied to the cost of bananas in Japan, Germany and the USA. The price of bananas experienced a significant fluctuation.
As can be seen from the graph, in 1996, bananas were sold at the same price in Japan and France, at 2 USD/kg, double the cost of bananas in the USA, at 1 USD/kg. The price of bananas in Germany was the second highest price, at 1 USD/kg.
Between 1996 and 2003, there was a pronounced fluctuation in the cost of bananas, at 2 USD/kg, but it saw a minimal decline to 1.5 USD/kg, followed by a recovery to 2.5 USD/kg in 2004. Meanwhile, the cost of bananas witnessed a remarkable fluctuation. From 1996 to 2004, the cost of bananas in Germany and the USA increased minimally to 1.7 and 1.2 USD/kg, respectively.
