online encyclopedias
The reading and the lecture are both talking about online encyclopedias and the traditional printed articles. Whereas the author of the reading states that the communal online encyclopedias have some difficulties to be trusts and valued by people. In contrast, the speaker claims just right the opposite. Also, the lecturer casts doubt on these ideas that made in the reading by providing three reasons.
First of all, according to the reading, the online encyclopedia usually has lack of academic materials by the contributors and sometimes inaccurate information are provided by them. However, the lecturer disputes this point by saying that errors remain for decades if the information entry process is not observed.
Secondly, the reading states that the nature of these online encyclopedia are favorable by hackers and give them opportunities to fabricate, delete and add incorrect entry unlike the traditional prints. Nevertheless, the lecture refutes this argument. She argues that these online encyclopedias can be protected by expert and trained people. In addition, she added that these experts can make format to make the entry process more protected.
Finally, the reading claims that it the traditional encyclopedia provides a considerable view of any topics with what to include and what to exclude. On the other hand, online encyclopedias have unlimited space, and they have algorithm to define what important is.
