Overall, industrialized nations lead by large margins in all aspects during this period. There was an increase in numbers between these years in the case of countries that are industrialized. Developing countries on the other hand showed a rise in these cases except for expenditure on research and development where it fell.
Between 1980 and 1990, There was no significant increase in average schooling years in developing countries while the other rose from 8 to 10 approximately. In the same duration, there were a drastic surge in the number of scientists and technicians per 1000 people in industrialized nations from 40 to almost 70 whereas the latter was below 20 all along.
In the case of spending on research and development, industrialized countries skyrocketed from 150 in 1980 to 350 in 1990. Developing nations, in contrast, declined from 50 to roughly 20 between 1980 and 1990.
