The tables below give information about sales of Fairtrade-labelled coffee and bananas in 1999 and 2004 in five European countries. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The tables below show the amount of money spent on Fairtrade coffee and bananas in two separate years in five different nations in Europe.
Overall, sales of coffee rose in all five countries from 1999 to 2004. However, that of bananas only saw an increase in three out of five. Switzerland was the country with the most expenditure on bananas, and for coffee, it was the UK.
In 1999, Switzerland had the highest sales of coffee, at 3 million euros, and the figure for bananas was also far more than that of other countries, at 15 million euros. Britain only made 1.5 million euros from Fairtrade coffee in the first year, but the year 2004 saw a significant rise in coffee sales, peaking at 20 million euros. In terms of bananas, the UK's revenue increased by 4.5 million euros, making it the country with the second-most money spent on these Fairtrade products.
If we look at the other countries, sales in Denmark, Belgium and Sweden were quite inferior to that of the two aforementioned nations. There were some marginal increases in the sales of Fairtrade coffee, but all figures were not any greater than 2 million euros. A similar trend was true in bananas' sales too, but in fact revenue in Denmark even underwent a significant reduction and decreased by over 50 percent.
