Some people say History is one of the most important school subjects. Other people think that, in today's world, subjects like Science and Technology are more important than History. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
People have different views about the importance of humanities and science and engineering. In my opinion, both kinds of subjects are necessary for students to learn, because they are important in different way.
Subjects such as science and technology greatly contribute to the improvement of human society. Due to the science progress, innovative technologies emerge in endlessly, facilitating the manufacture and infrastructure. For example, with the emergence of subways, cars, trains, planes and other means of transport, people can go anywhere they want in a short time. And with the invention of Internet and telecommunication technology, it becomes possible to connect with people all over the world. These edge technologies have totally changed the word and brought great convenience to people's life over the past decades. We need science and engineering to achieve more in the future, such as protecting the environment and improve the medical standards.
On the other hand, humanities is crucial to personal development. We can not be complete individuals without subjects like art, history, literature and philosophy. We learn to appreciate beauty from art, to think independently and critically form philosophy. And we know and observe the world we live more deeply by learning history and literature. Humanities enrich our knowledge and broaden our horizons, making us have inclusive attitudes to different cultures and opinions. So it is also important for students to study humanities in order to build up a wholesome personality, which will be beneficial to their whole life.
In conclusion, the best education for students is to learn both humanities and science and engineering. The former promote personal development, while the latter contribute to social improvement.
