Food products’ labels should contain detailed information about that food. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion? What might be the most important information for food labels?
Food labeling is one method for consumers to learn more about the foods they are considering purchasing. Many individuals dispute whether the label should provide explicit information about the product. I comprehensively assent with this outlook. From my perspective, nutritional information is the most vital in labeling which should be encompassed.
On the one hand, with the aid of food labels, consumers could accurately measure their diet while also distinctly verifying the local products for promotional purposes. Labels assist people in understanding the content of food such as vitamins, minerals, calories, fats, etc. This knowledge is critical in ensuring that they are eating foods that are good for them. With labels, people can keep track of their micronutrient intake and avoid deficiencies, especially common ones like iron and Vitamin D. A record of weight can easily be kept by counting calories and saturated fats, limiting sugar and salt intake. All of these behaviors can aid in the prevention of diseases such as diabetes and some types of heart disease. Moreover, consumers ascribe attributes of products such as flavor and quality to geographic places. Consumers are increasingly associating quality with regional origins and customs. Take Vietnam coffee as an example, taste-wise, robusta coffee is often stronger, nuttier, and darker in flavor than arabica coffee, as a result, it is generally favored. Therefore, Vietnam becomes the world's second-largest producer of coffee.
In addition, the ingredient information should be listed sincerely on food labels for health safety and religious beliefs reasons. From the aspect of safety, people with food allergies may have catastrophic effects if they are allergic to food and must thus be very careful about their meals. Therefore, valuable information on which ingredients are employed in the production procedure can eliminate the threat of unnecessary food-borne illnesses and allergic reactions. Furthermore, dietary information is also imperative for those who set strong religious beliefs. Some people choose not to eat certain products such as the Muslims do not eat all products from pork, carrion, and blood; hence, they struggle to categorize suitably packaged products. By contrast, with the effective support of food labels, this will no longer be a problem.
In conclusion, the importance of food labeling cannot be underestimated. It is not only a legal obligation of food producers, but it also helps customers make informed food shopping decisions and use the food they have purchased.
