The plans below show a student room for two people and a student room for one person at an Australian university.
The given diagrams represent the interior and arrangement of undergraduates' dormitory, including single and double rooms at an Australian university.
To begin with, as can be seen from two plans, both kinds of rooms have some similarities in equipment and facilities. It is clear that bathroom, television, windows, and kitchen implements such as microwave, sink, and stove are fundamental. Besides, the length of student rooms is the same, at 6 meters.
A more detailed look at the picture reveals many differences between accommodation for one person and that for two people. A single room is much smaller as its width is 1.5 meters less than a double one. Furthermore, a room for two undergraduates is double in the number of beds and study desks. This kind of accommodation also has an extra set of table and chairs as well as a bookshelf. The private areas of students are isolated by a cupboard in the center of the room.
To conclude, a double room at an Australian university is significantly more functional and convenient than a single flat. As a result, the rent prices are different: While it costs 200 dollars per week for one undergraduate, it takes 150 dollars more for two students.
