Overall, the amount of CO2 emission tends to increase gradually over 20 years mentioned, and the car is the main reason for this trend. It is noticeable that the number of vehicles also rises significantly in the same period.
In 2000, there was only 20 million vehicles in England and Wales, this figure for the year 2005 just grew slightly, to 22 million. However, after 2005, the number of transportation started to increase faster, and it is expected that the people in 2020 will see about 51 million vehicles around them.
In terms of the emisson of CO2, we can see that the amount of CO2 emitted by cars significantly increases from 20 tons in 2000 to 26 tons in 2020. By contrast, the buses release a stable amount of CO2, at around 8 tons, compared to the emission from vans climbs by 2 tons during 20 years. Meanwhile, CO2 gas which is emitted by trucks grow considerably, in 2000, this figure was 15 tons and in 2020, it will rise up to 23 tons.
