The pie chart illustrates the reasons of global land degradation, whereas the table depicts country wise causes in the year 1990.
Overall, it can be observed that the over-grazing was the biggest cause of land deterioration globally while regionally it can be seen that over cultivation was the main cause of degradation in north America, deforestation for Europe and overgrazing proportion were the highest for Oceania respectively.
To begin with, the pie chart compares the proportion of how the agricultural land becomes less productive. It is analysed that the main cause of it is over grazing which comprises of 35% respectively whereas deforestation and over cultivation accounts for 30 and 28 %. The other causes of land losing the usefulness consisted of 7%.
Secondly, the regional distribution of the causes was subdivided into three categories and all the regions showed different reasons for its degradation. North America showed over cultivation of 3.3 % as the highest cause of land to be unfertile, nevertheless Europe region had deforestation as the main reason for degradation consisting of 9.8 % and overgrazing was observed to be the leading reason for Oceania region which accounted for 11.3 % respectively.
