The line graph illustrates the amount of carbon dioxide emissions (in metric tonnes) per person in four separate countries from 1967 to 2007.
It is clear that there was a decrease in the average CO2 emitted by each person in Sweden, while the opposite was true for the remaining categories. In addition, the amount of CO2 emissions in the UK had the highest figure over the period shown.
The number of carbon dioxide released by a person in Sweden started at nearly 9 metric tonnes, after which it recorded a slight rise to north of 10 metric tonnes in 1977, before declining to nearly 6 in 2007. Opposite pattern can be seen in the figure for Italy, which increased from just over 4 in 1967 to more than 4 metric tonnes after 40 years.
When it comes to the United Kingdom, about 11 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per individual in this region in 1967, with a subsequent fall to around 9 metric tonnes in 2007. In contrast, the figure for Portugal experienced experienced a dramatic increase from about 1 metric tonnes in 1967 to just over 6 metric tonnes in the final year, comparable with that of Sweden.
