The tables below show people's reasons for giving up smoking, and when they intend to give up. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The two given tables illustrate the proportion of causes why people choose to quit smoking as well as when they intend to stop this activity.
Overall, it is evident from the statistics that the most significant motive chain-smokers express is for their health. Furthermore, an outstanding figure of people willing to stop smoking can be witnessed in the second table.
As regards the first graph, general health is the main factor (accounting for as much as 71%), more than doubling the figure for financial hardships (31%). Next comes fear of smoking-related ailments (registering at 25%), whereas family pressure and current health issues account for the least (16% and 12% respectively). It is also noticeable that compared to light smokers, approximately twice as many heavy smokers consider their existing health conditions to be the motivation.
Turning to the second graph, nearly three-fourths of those questioned are willing to quit this bad habit, with light smokers showing the greatest willingness (79%) and heavy ones showing the least willingness (60%). Regarding the unwilling-to-stop group, heavy smokers are almost twice as reluctant to give up as light smokers (40% and 21% in turn).
