The bar chart compares the proportion of money spent on roads and transport by the governments of 4 countries in 4 different years. Overall, Portugal spent the most money over the course of 4 years while the UK spent the least. There was a decrease in the proportion of money paid out for road and transport except the USA.
In 1990 the expenditure of road and transport in Portugal was the highest, at roughly a quarter, followed by Italy, accounting for about 22%. The UK and the USA didn’t invest much, just at 10% and 11%, respectively. This pattern remained unchanged in 1995. However, the percentage of money spent on this aspect in both 4 countries fell slighly.
5 years later, the amount of money invested in road and transport increased slightly. Italy spent the most money compared to the others, at about 24%.. In the same way, the expenditure of the UK rose and reached its highest point, at around 12%. The percentage of spending in the USA also grew, at 14%. Portugal is the only country that saw a decline in the proportion of money spent on road and transport, decreased to 23% and hit a low of 20% in the final year. In contrast, there was a slight increase in the expenditure in the USA while those of the others went down in 2005
